Kampong Chhnang province will host the fifth iteration of the River Festival, which will take place during three days in March.

The event will feature cultural and sporting activities, including tree planting, seminars, tourism and Khmer product exhibitions and trade fairs, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Tourism.

The festival aims to create tourism events for provinces along the river that contribute to their promotion and development by attracting tourists.

The Ministry of Tourism said the event will help enhance the quality of local tourism services and inspire people to protect their natural heritage.

Tourism Minister Thong Khon said hosting the event gives Kampong Chhnang a great opportunity to develop its tourism market and strengthen conservation efforts.

“This event will help improve the reputation, and prestige of the province, create income, and improve the living conditions of the local people.

“In addition, Kampong Chhnang will be an attractive tourist destination with cleanliness, greenery and good hospitality,” Mr Khon said.

The first River Festival in 2015, in Kratie, welcomed about 100,000 visitors. Last year, 1.5 million people visited the event, which was held in Kandal province.
