The Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries reported that the Kingdom has exported more than 3 million tonnes of agricultural products between January and September 2020.

Agriculture is one of the four pillars supporting the Cambodian economy, or the key industries. The others have traditionally been the export of garments and footwear, tourism, and construction, which generally experience positive growth.

In a report by the Phnom Penh Post, Ministry data showed that the Kingdom exported 61 different agricultural products to 59 countries in the period mentioned.

Minister Veng Sakhon said the government is “striving to boost local food production to reduce food imports during the Covid-19 epidemic” and added that Cambodia exported $1.5 billion worth of agricultural products to international markets last year, up from nearly $1 billion in 2013.

Cambodia’s milled-rice exports increased from $63,000 in 2010 to $440 million in 2019. Earlier in 2020 it was reported that Cambodia exported 300,252 tonnes of rice between January and April in 2020, generating an equivalent of $210 million. This is the highest Cambodian rice export volume for a decade, said the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).
