Indonesia’s investment minister has called for collaboration among ASEAN countries aimed at regional development. His comments came during a working luncheon with the Cambodian Minister of Environment Say Samal in Siem Reap recently.

“Each ASEAN member country should collaborate with each other in intra-regional development efforts and not depend on countries outside the region,” said Minister of Investment and Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia.

“We can discuss the right formulation for this collaboration,” he added.

The working luncheon between the two ministers was carried out on the sidelines of the 54th Asean Economic Meeting (AEM) and Related Meetings, which took place from September 11-18 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, IndoCham was the host for the working lunch.

The meeting was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Sudirman Haseng; President of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (IndoCham), Dalton Wong; and Prince Group CEO, Cliff Koh.

At the meeting, Minister Say Samal mentioned Indonesia, which is considered as Cambodia’s brother in the region. This close relationship needs to be used to strengthen people-to-people contact in the economic field, such as cooperation between communities considering that there are quite a lot of Indonesian communities in Cambodia.

Minister Samal also briefly explained the economic and political system in Cambodia. The two ministers also discussed in depth the important role of the young generation in Indonesia and Cambodia.

They acknowledged that the younger generation currently plays an important role at the top of the government. This proves that today’s young generation has proven its capacity and capability in development and progress in both countries.

Minister Lahadalia visited Cambodia to attend the AEM – 25th ASEAN Investment Area (AIA) Council Meeting and AIA Meeting last week at Sokha Siem Reap & Convention Centre.

The 54th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings were opened by Prime Minister Hun Sen and attended by Trade Ministers of ASEAN member countries and partner countries.
