Russian officials seem to favour Sihanoukville as the destination for the regularly scheduled direct flights between the Kingdom and Russian proposed by Prime Minister Hun Sen last week in Moscow.
According to Tourism Minister Thong Khon, Dmitry Medvedev expressed that a seaside destination would be the most popular option. “In the meeting [last week], the Russian prime minister pushed for a direct flight from Russia to Sihanoukville,” Khon said.
Cambodia has already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for direct flights in 2015, and last week’s talks were hoped to speed up implementation.
Although the numbers of Russians visiting the coastal town are in decline, Russians are still ranked as Sihanoukville’s second largest visitor, following the Chinese.
