On 19 March 2018 the Bar Association of Cambodia approved Sciaroni & Associates’ senior partner’s application to be admitted as an attorney to practice law in the Kingdom of Cambodia. Bretton G. Sciaroni is the first non-ethnic Khmer to become a member of the bar association and his firm is now registered as a law office and is recognised by the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

This honour was granted in light of the many contributions he has made to Cambodia over 25 years. For example, Mr. Sciaroni has served as a Legal Advisor to the Royal Government in every mandate, a position that carries with it the rank of Minister. In addition, since 2000 he has served as the private sector Co-Chair of the Government Private Sector’s Working Group on Law, Tax and Governance. In this capacity, Mr. Sciaroni has served alongside his governmental counterparts, first Deputy Prime Minister Keat Chhon and subsequently H.E. Senior Minister Dr. Aun Porn Moniroth. Also, among other activities, he attended a number of meetings of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee where the Preah Vihear Temple was successfully inscribed as one of Cambodia’s World Heritage Site. He also has been active in bringing back stolen artefacts such as the Duryadhana statue. For these and other reasons, his request to become a member of the bar association was granted.
