Re-Edge’s First Design of Mid-Rise Boutique Hotel Project Is Under Construction

Re-Edge Architecture + Design, led by principal architect Hun Chansan and architect manager Alex Luu, has completed the design stage of a 14-storey boutique hotel on street 228, corner with street 55 Sangkat Chaktomuk, Phnom Penh. The project makes provision for all the amenities of a high-end boutique hotel, including receptionist/ self-check-in desk, guest lounge/ café, front and back office, casual dining restaurant, three types of accommodation that make up a total of 88 rooms, outdoor sky bar, indoor sky bar, VIP/conference room, roof top Jacuzzi and gym room.
The design concept was determined by site constraints and hotel operation requirements. The result is an iconic building that will enchant passerbyers, and that would fit nicely among the lustrous, cutting-edge buildings of an ultra-developed city like Singapore. “We are honored to be the architect for this project,” said Hun Chansan. “This project will be one of the first notable buildings on Phnom Penh Street. The conceptual form of the building derived from its urban context, like the network of road traffic, the views and the existing monuments surrounding it. All of this has inspired the dynamic shape of the façade.” The project is currently under construction and will be completed by the end of 2016 with an estimated construction cost of US 7 million.
About Re-Edge Architecture + Design and Hun Chansan
Chansan graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, majoring in Architecture. In May 2009, he completed a Masters in Architecture from Northeastern University Boston. Before returning to Cambodia, he worked in a numbers of notable architecture firms in Boston. Upon returning, his first job was in the faculty of Architecture and Design at Limkokwing Univeristy of Creative Technology (Phnom Penh campus). Chansan is also a visiting professor at Pannasastra University School of Architecture and Design, in where he inspires students to excel in the fields of Design and Concept.
In 2011, Chansan established Re-Edge as a continuation of his thesis project, where the architectural approach was taken as a dialog between a building and its environment. Since then, Chansan has directed numerous projects. Re-Edge is currently celebrating its fourth year in the architecture and design industry in Cambodia. Its growing portfolio includes Villa Town Residential project in Boeung Tampun area, CMED Group Office, 14-Storey Boutique Hotel, The Loop House, Over/Under Office, Multiple Office and Accommodation Buildings for Winning Dragon Leather Ware, Galaxy Residence, Chea Residences, Leang Residence and other petite scale commercial projects. In a short period of time, the Re-Edge team has developed from an eight person-firm in a small rented office on the rooftop of a hotel into a twenty-person firm office in BKK 1 . This was possible thanks to the high level of dedication, commitment, and talent of the diverse group of architects, designers and engineers that make up the Re-Edge team.
