Candidates for Board elections:

1. RONALD ALMERA – Managing Partner, Grant Thornton (Cambodia) Ltd

Ronald has been in Phnom Penh since May 2013 and is the managing partner of Grant Thornton in Cambodia.

He has been in the audit practice for over 25 years and joined Grant Thornton Cambodia in May 2013 from a Big 4 firm in Vietnam, where he spent 10 years in providing audit services to multinational companies across multiple industries. Prior to Vietnam, Ronald also worked in Grant Thornton in the Philippines. He has also been involved in capacity building engagements by providing technical training on accounting, auditing standards, audit methodology and tools for NGOs and multinational clients.

Ronald is a member of the Philippines Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Vietnam Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Khmer Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Auditors, where he serves as a member of the Quality Control Committee.

Ronald has been on the Board since 2014.

2. MARTIN BERRY – Chief Financial Officer, Prudential (Cambodia) Life Insurance Plc.

Martin became the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Prudential (Cambodia) Life Assurance plc in July 2014 having worked with Prudential for 7 years. Before arriving in Cambodia he was the Finance Director in Malaysia and the Director, Financial Reporting, Asia at the regional office in Hong Kong. Prior to joining Prudential, Martin worked in audit in the UK and Hong Kong for 18 years, the last 8 being with KPMG in Hong Kong where he specialised in the audit of insurance companies.

Martin is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accounts.

Martin has been on the Board since 2015.

3. PAUL DODD – Director, Infinity Financial Solutions Ltd.

Paul Dodd has been in Cambodia for 9 years to-date, building up a wealth of knowledge of the dos and don’ts of establishing residence or doing business in Phnom Penh.

With 20 years of experience of the financial services industry, built up Infinity Financial Solutions from a fledgling firm to the country’s leading provider of expatriate financial services. He has as a result of this, made network connections with all the leading overseas firms particularly those that are British owned or led, leaving him in a good position to offer support and advice to both existing and new enterprises. Paul also fulfils the role of Regional Sales Manager, travelling and conducting business through the Asian region.

Paul is perhaps best known in Phnom Penh for organising charitable, social and corporate events. Paul and Infinity are active members of the Chamber.

4. BENILDA FERNANDO – Director, PricewaterhouseCoopers (Cambodia) Ltd

Benilda Fernando has been in Cambodia since 1995, following time spent in Vietnam and her native Philippines. Her work has also taken her to Thailand, Myanmar and Bangladesh. An experienced auditor and technical trainer, Mrs Fernando worked with Ernst & Young before joining PwC. At PwC, she is a member of the Professional Compliance Group with a focus on risk management, she advices on Cambodian accounting standards and international financial reporting standards, and she is the International Development Aid Coordinator for the firm’s South East Asia Peninsula region, coordinating business development and business opportunities with international development agencies.

She is a member of the Philippines Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Khmer Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Auditors, where she serves as Vice-Chair of the Quality Control Committee.

Benilda has been on the Board since 2015 and is currently the Treasurer.

5. PETER BEYNON – Jardine Matheson Myanmar & Cambodia Country Chairman.

After graduating from Bristol University, Peter joined PwC’s London office and qualified as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant in 1981 and subsequently embarked on a career in commerce that has focussed on family businesses.

Post qualification he spent over 20 years with the Jardine Matheson group working in a number of senior finance and management roles in Asia and the Middle East, including significant periods in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. He worked as the Finance Director of several listed and private companies during which time he led a number of major corporate acquisitions and the development of joint venture business initiatives in emerging markets.
Peter then embarked on a career in consultancy, leveraging his diverse chartered accountancy skills in international and emerging market environments. He became the first non-family Managing Director of the esteemed Al Fahim Group based in Abu Dhabi in 2005, before joining as a partner of HBG a private equity firm based in Dubai in 2008. In 2012 Peter was engaged and successfully led the expansion and development of the ICAEW Middle East operations in the Middle East.
In 2014 Peter was re-engaged by Jardine Matheson to lead the group’s development of its business portfolio in Myanmar and Cambodia

6. MATTHEW RENDALL – Senior Partner, Sok Siphana & Associates

A British/Australian commercial lawyer practicing in Cambodia since 1994, Matthew is a Senior Partner at Sok Siphana & Associates (A member of the ZicoLaw Group).

Previously, he has been a Managing Partner of Sciaroni & Associates international law firm and was Head of the Property & Real Estate Practice Group.

Matt has advised the Cambodian Government on the implementation of the new property registration and ownership laws, as well as the establishment of the Labour Arbitration Council (on which he was the first foreign arbitrator).

Matthew has been on the Board since 2014 and is currently the Vice-Chairman.

7. TREVOR SWORN – Senior Partner, Yejj Consulting

Living in Cambodia since 1999, with country experience, insight & spoken language. Establishing and involved in 8 successful businesses as well as providing consulting services to the private and public sectors. Bringing a wealth of leadership, entrepreneurship & management experience.

Trevor has been on the Board since 2014 and is currently the Secretary.

8. JAMES STERLING – CEO, Advance Construction & The Room Design Studio

James has been based full time in South East Asia for nearly twelve years, and the last seven in Cambodia. With a passion for business development and sustainable growth, James is now the CEO or Director of eight companies based in Cambodia, Hong Kong and Myanmar.

He founded Advance Construction in 2010 and merged with The Room Design Studio in 2016. Since the merger, Advance has continued to grow and The Room Design Studio has become a leader in the field of design in the Kingdom.

In 2017 Advance will complete its expansion into Myanmar, with the Advance DCE group.

James is an advocate for affordable social housing and social development. In 2015 Advance became the World’s first construction company to be certified “Childsafe”.

9. DANIEL WEIN – Senior Legal Adviser, Deputy Head – Corporate & Commercial Practice Group, DFDL

Daniel is a commercial lawyer with over 16 years’ experience specialising in banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities law, insolvency, commercial law and commercial property. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.

Daniel has experience acting for various large institutional clients and he holds a particular expertise in the structuring of institutional lending and security especially involving offshore syndication and complex financing. Daniel is also experienced in the application of the law to technology, including payment systems, electronic commerce and data privacy.

Daniel has been on the Board since 2016.

10. JOSH WILLIAMS – Country Manager, Cambodia, Cathy Pacific

After graduating in the UK Josh took up a place on the Swire Management Trainee program and was seconded to Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong from 2012. Since then he has worked for Swire in various management positions around Asia, including in India, Nepal, Indonesia and two stints in Hong Kong. His roles to date have spanned operations, procurement, sales & marketing, and country management before taking up his current role as Country Manager Cambodia for Cathay Dragon and Cathay Pacific in August 2016.

Josh’s experience managing a large British multinational in Cambodia, with offices in Siem Rep and Phnom Penh, enables him to offer a valuable insight into living and conducting business in Cambodia. When combined with his diverse experience working across various Asian economies Josh would hope to bring a unique and valuable perspective to Britcham’s board. Additionally, he is a keen facilitator and will seek to apply his strong networking skills to promote the benefits of doing business in Cambodia and add value to Britcham’s members.
