More about the World Economic Forum ASEAN Summit in Phnom Phnom:

Between May 10 & 12, the World Economic Forum is hosting its annual ASEAN summit in Phnom Penh under the theme of “Youth and Technology”. The ASEAN countries are becoming rapidly connected to the digital economy.

Indeed, the 10 countries of ASEAN together represent the fastest-growing internet population in the world. The number of people with internet access is growing by 124,000 every day – and will continue to grow at this pace for the next five years. As digital connectivity rises, it promises huge transformations. Economies will develop in new ways. The nature of jobs will change. The skills needed to do well in the future will evolve. The opportunities for the young will be sharply different to those in the past.

Today, ASEAN has strong economic growth. The countries of Southeast Asia are rapidly urbanizing, industrializing and also integrating with each other to create a powerful regional community of nations.

And the young age of the population means that ASEAN citizens will be more open to adopting new technologies than older countries. It promises a bright future. But nothing is guaranteed.
