Trade between Cambodia and Myanmar may be strengthened through SME investments: Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodia and Myanmar will encourage investment from small and medium enterprises and exchange agricultural products to further enhance trade between the two countries.

“Trade between Cambodia and Myanmar can be strengthened through investments by SMEs,” stated a ministry press release at the conclusion of a two day official visit to Myanmar by Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

Myanmar’s exports are predominantly food and agricultural commodities which Cambodia and Myanmar could enter into trade deals to exchange according to the press release.

Sokhonn also asked Myanmar to speed up negotiations on an agreement to avoid double taxation of companies in addition to examining a law on the promotion and protection of investments.

Over 30 Cambodian companies have invested in Myanmar, mostly in the services and investment banking sectors.
