An in-depth quarterly analysis of the Cambodian labour market made by everjobs Cambodia, the fastest growing online career portal in the Kingdom, reveals a rise in the popularity of engineering positions during the second quarter of 2017.
Everjobs recently launched the latest edition of its Career Report, an in-depth quarterly analysis of the labor market of the Kingdom. The data of the report, gathered by monitoring the traffic on everjobs.com.kh over the months of April, May and June 2017, reveals that while the education sector continues to be a strong contributor to the Cambodian job market, interest in engineering positions is increasing.
Released in the form of an infographic, the report identifies the most recent online recruitment trends in the country, including the latest top hiring industries in Cambodia based on more than 5,400 job opportunities published online and more than 25,200 applications submitted through the platform during the second quarter of this year.
According to the data collected during the past three months, the education sector continues to be a strong contributor to the Cambodian job market. With 375 job offers published on everjobs.com.kh during this period, the education industry is also getting more popular among job seekers in the Kingdom. “Teacher” was one of the most searched for terms by professionals during Q2 of 2017, with everjobs processing more than 1,600 applications to teacher positions through its platform during between April and June 2017. In addition, this quarter Education makes a new appearance at number four of the top five industries with the most vacancies.
While new trends are arising, the sales, hotel and lodging, and food and beverage sectors still remain popular among job seekers.“These industries remain some of the most sustainable sectors in Cambodia and they can be considered as fundamental to playing a key role within the labour market,” the report stated. Accounting and Finance, followed by Sales remained in the top two industries with the most vacancies, with Hospitality creeping up to number three from fourth place in the first quarter, displacing Marketing to number five.
While terms “IT” and “Teacher” have been a sustainable trend within the most searched for jobs for the past year, the report reveals the emergence of a new popular search term – “Engineer”. This position, directly related to Construction and Maintenance, highlights rising interest for the sector among professionals in Cambodia.
“While industries like Education and Banking will maintain their position among the top job generating sectors in the long run due to Cambodia’s socio-economic development,” says Divotsna Jangir, Business Development Manager at everjobs, “the current trends point to a near future increasingly dominated by more technical job opportunities like IT development and Engineering,” she said.
Furthermore, with 12.55% of online searches on everjobs focusing on engineering positions, companies also appeared eager to welcome the technical talent – there were more than 270 engineering job opportunities published online during the second quarter of 2017.
