FDI into Cambodia’s real estate sector increased

The NBC (National Bank of Cambodia) Annual Banking Supervision Report 2019 was released this week and the FDI (foreign direct investment) into the real estate sector in 2019 was valued at over $437.3 million.

The FDI (a combination of all type of real estate and condominiums) in Cambodia was lead by China with 58.8% (over $262 million) of the total FDI. The main contributors were:

  • China: over $262 million
  • Singapore: $67.75 million
  • United States: $53.5 million
  • South Korea: $27.25 million
  • Japan: $15.5 million
  • Other countries: $19.5 million

The report suggests Cambodia had a 21% increase inflow of FDI into the real estate sector in 2019.

In addition, the report said the growth of credit of banking and finances to the Cambodian real estate sector was 37.9% and 13, 9% respectively said the Khmer Times.

The Annual Banking Supervision Report 2019 said more than 97% of banks were offering credit to the real estate while microfinance institutions shared only 3%. The market share of the banking sector into the real estate was 24.8% with a total loan portfolio of $25.1billion.

The credit to the real estate sector was predominantly in construction and personal mortgages.
