Ride-hailing giants Uber and Grab may not have yet entered the Cambodian market, but residents of Phnom Penh already have an alternative that allows them to hire rides to move around the city: a new app by local developers known as Exnet Taxi Cambodia.

The new app is the brainchild of Hor Daluch and wife, and allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request, which is then routed to the company’s pool of registered drivers. The app uses GPS and mapping software to locate both the driver and customer.

Drivers taking advantage of the app use their own vehicles to pick up customers. So far only cash payments are possible, but the developers are already working on providing an online payment option.

The app launched in June, and now has 60 registered freelance drivers, while more than 300 people have downloaded the application.
