Seedstars World Competition 2020/2021: Phnom Penh

The Seedstars World Competition will take place across 2020 -2021 online and the tech competition will again be spread across three stages, with the global winner receiving up to USD $500,000 in equity investment and other prizes. Online Seedstars World says the competition will this year take place "fully online, startups can apply from any part of their country of residence to the nearest of the competitions in their ecosystem. Only one winner per city will be selected to attend the regional stage."

Seedstars World Competition 2020/2021 Process

The Seedstars World Competition 2020/21 is open for startups is open until July 31st. There are three stages of the competition - local, regional, and global, to try and discover the "best startup from emerging markets who will get USD 500,000 in investment and the title of the Global Winner 2020/21." All winners from the local stage will compete on a regional level. Through a broadcasted pitch competition on Seedstars Life, the regional finalists will be selected based on their business strength and scalability. The finalists will move to the Grand Finale, where the Global Winner will be announced. Applicants need to have:
  • Have received less than USD 500,000 of funding to date;
  • A scalable tech product or have the potential to reach the scalability.
The organisers added that following the "success of the Online Seedstars Summit on April 3rd, 2020, we decided to digitally redesign our events worldwide to ensure the safety of our partners and community due to COVID-19 crisis. In 2019, the three winners of the tech competition in Phnom Penh, Cambodia were:

Seedstars Academy

During the 2020/21 edition of the Seedstars World Competition, there are also plans to train 1,600 startups through the Online Seedstars Academy and select one local startup winner per city to take part in the regional level competition. The startup selected for each region will then compete at the global Grand Finale at the Online Seedstars Summit planned for April 2021. The Online Seedstars World Competition will be accessible via Seedstars Life, a dedicated platform set up to host the regional and global events.
